Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist & Retreat Host based in Norwich.

Hi, I’m Marie. Welcome, and thanks for being here.

I share an embodied approach to yoga that prioritises felt-sense curiosity, connection, and allows for your own authentic expression through movement and somatic explorations of yoga asana.

I am a qualified Yoga Therapist, offering somatic therapy to help individuals process and heal from stress, trauma, ill health and suffering; sharing somatic tools that help educate, empower, resource and regulate someone during the therapeutic process of recovery and interpersonal healing.

“My yoga therapy sessions with Marie have been inspiring. Marie is a very gentle, intuitive and knowledgeable practitioner and she sensitively facilitates a deeper connection to self without judgement — meeting you 'where you are'.”

My Experience & Work

I've been teaching yoga full time since I completed my first yoga teacher training in India in 2018. Since then I have continued to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the depths of the body far beyond the physical. I have trained in various different disciplines of yoga, therapeutics and somatics; bringing all of this together into my unique teaching approach and therapeutic offerings.

I am a qualified Yoga Therapist, having trained with The Minded Institute in London. I studied their 3 year ‘Professional Yoga Therapy Diploma’ and graduated in January 2023. I share Yoga Therapy in Norwich (and online) with individuals who wish to see me for private Yoga Therapy, to address mental or physical healthcare needs.

I also offer therapeutic yoga classes to closed groups with shared needs and I work with a number of local charities and organisations offering therapeutic group yoga to their service users. I have experience working with addiction & recovery, domestic violence, mental health and trauma groups. As well as providing classes for those with long-term chronic health conditions, such as MS & Parkinson's.

I also offer 'Office Wellbeing' yoga classes and 'Wellbeing Workshops & Events' in the workplace to a number of companies, both in Norwich & online.

Working Together

Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is an integrative somatic therapy for those seeking a holistic and integrated mind-body approach to therapy, health and wellbeing, and is a trauma-informed therapeutic approach that addresses symptoms and conditions through the lens of the nervous system.

  • Yoga Therapy is a person-centered, integrative mind-body approach to therapy. It seeks to look at the entire person and makes space to consider a person's full story, as well as any presenting symptoms or health conditions.

As a somatic therapist, I am here to support you in your own journey of embodiment as a radical act of self-healing.

I am here to teach you how to understand your own body and regulate your own nervous system, to improve your overall health and help to eliminate symptoms of a dysregulated system as a result of ill health, stress or trauma.

We do this together, in partnership, and it's a process, not a quick fix. It's a process of learning about yourself, understanding the messages from your body and the influence and agency you have on your body, physiology and mind.

It's a process of holding space for what has been stored in the body, building more and more capacity to be with this, to allow it to be seen and felt, and to be processed and released.

  • It is a process of learning the language of the body, to listen to the body in order to understand more about one's own experience and forming a connection with the body and breath as a way of coming into contact with the somatic intelligence of the body.

When the body is a place of discomfort and pain, this is made possible through an increased capacity for self-regulation: a capacity to be with our lived experience.

  • It has been my experience of working with many different clients, that the most important part of this therapeutic work, is to build an understanding of your very own nervous system and become aware of how it is in constant response to life, as a result of your past stories and present circumstances. If you are someone who has experienced trauma or ongoing stress, it is likely there is a level of disruption to the functioning of your nervous system resulting in symptoms of ill-health or having a negative impact on your mental wellbeing.

  • Symptoms & Conditions that might be the result of a dysregulated nervous system could include:

Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, Addictions, CFS/ME, Autoimmune conditions, Chronic Pain

  • I ask that new clients commit to a minimum of 8 weeks / sessions to begin with, including an initial intake session to understand your history and current presentation, and to start to understand how we might work together in this therapeutic process.

Sessions can be held weekly or bi-weekly.

    Cost per session:

Initial Intake Session: £75 for 75 minutes

    £65 per hour / £75 for 75 minutes (recommended)

Somatic Yoga Classes

Choose classes that prioritise giving you agency over your own body and choices. Cultivate a deeper connection to your body; learn to listen & respond to the intuitive wisdom of the body through embodied explorations of movement and yoga asana.

  • "Authentic Flow is a somatic approach to movement through which we listen, taste, see, feel, inquire and learn to embody our bodies as a living, feeling and exploring creative process of becoming."

Through somatic inquiry the intention is to cultivate a deeper connection to the body, learning to listen and respond to the internal language of the body through movement and somatic explorations of yoga asana and free movement.

This class uses music as a soundscape to support the journey of embodiment.

These classes prioritise giving you agency over your body and choices.

Classes are trauma sensitive and open to all 'levels' of practitioners, however some previous 'experience' with yoga or forms of movement is recommended.

  • Somatic release techniques are body-based practices & methods used to release emotions, or “energy”, such as stress, upset, anger, tension or trauma.

In this class we use ‘containers’ of repetitive movements to build towards a release, both physically and energetically, and to fuel an exploration of freedom within that release. We journey between high-intensity repetitive movements and riding the release into explorations of free movement.

The containers build a ‘charge’ in the body, using the repetition of movements to activate the big muscle groups to metabolise stress/sympathetic energy and help with the release of tension.

The practice is carefully curated to lift and lower the heart rate as a kind of ‘nervous system conditioning’. Through this process we increase ‘Heart Rate Variability’, the ‘flexibility’ of our NS and our capacity to move between sympathetic-parasympathetic. Through this form of nervous system regulation we increase our capacity to react and respond to stress.

The practice ebbs and flows between containers, releasing, grounding, resourcing and rest. As we go on this journey, a lot can show up and become unstuck, but it’s not about forcing anything to happen, it's about being open to moments of releasing & opening, of letting go and softening, when we're ready and feel safe and supported to do so.

This class is for anyone and everyone, including those looking to manage anxiety &/or depression, anyone recovering from trauma or health conditions such as CFS, long-covid, burnout - anything that has thrown your NS out of whack and left you feeling out of balance, with great tools & strategies for managing your mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Guided and held with care by Marie who is professionally trained & well equipped to support you on this journey.

  • A slower somatic class to work with releasing deeper layers of physical and mental tension through Myofascial Release and an embodied approach to Yin yoga, arriving into a more effortless state of being and rest.

In this class we will restore energy through a balanced practice of movement and stillness, allowing space for the body to find a release first and for the mind to be able to settle into union with the body.

    We'll explore this through:

~ Myofascial Release: somatic explorations of our fascia and meridian pathways, unwinding and unravelling tension with movement, massage and applied pressure using props and balls

~ Embodied Yin: using movement to prepare the body to land into stiller Yin yoga postures and allow the body to continue to ease in and land with the posture. Ride the release of qi through the body after long-held postures and between periods of stillness, helping your body and mind create the capacity to land and settle into rest.

“Marie has an incredible healing talent. She has helped me and given me tools to release deeply blocked emotions and taught me breathing and relaxation techniques which have allowed me to calm my nervous system and improve the quality of my day-to-day life. I feel the Yoga Therapy sessions I am having with Marie are finally helping me on the path towards recovery.”
